Russell is pleased with pole position in Melbourne. Mercedes driver George Russell summed up the results of qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix, noting that he was pleased with the result and the start from pole position.
At the same time, Russell admitted that there were certain problems with the car and outlined the goal of getting to the finish line as the initial goal for the race.
I expected us to win pole, but not by such a margin. However, not all of our competitors were in the fight - Verstappen was not there, and we believed that he would be the closest pursuer this weekend. And if you look at the difference [in lap times] Verstappen makes compared to his teammate, we can assume that he would have been in the fight [for a place on the front row]. So I think everything just came together perfectly for us today.
Overall I am very pleased, the car feels great. The engine also worked great, although the new systems are extremely demanding to control. I have had a few problems and also some concerns regarding the reliability of the car. “So it hasn’t gone so smoothly, and that’s the biggest concern going into tomorrow’s race – we just have to try to get to the finish line first, ” Russell said.
Mercedes is too good for the new F1. Rivals are shocked, Verstappen is in the wall
