Edmonton`s CEO believes the club has strengthened compared to last year. The Oilers reached the Stanley Cup Final for the second year in a row. The Canadian club will again play against Florida, to which it lost in the decisive series of the 2023/24 season with a score of 3-4.
– Last year, you made a number of changes to the team and organization, including a new general manager, despite the fact that you were just one goal shy of beating Florida in Game 7 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final.
Tell us about how you came to this decision. And how nice was it to bounce back from that disappointment and reach the final again?
– Not a single good team plays with the same lineup. We made some changes in the offseason, and so did Florida.
We have a very solid core led by Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. There are Mattias Ekholm, Darnell Nurse and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, they have great leadership qualities and deliver results.
By making changes, we thought we could integrate everyone we needed into the team. The goal was to add depth to the team so that we wouldn`t end up in situations where we had to rely on Connor and Leon all the time.
Unfortunately, due to injuries and other things, we weren`t able to show what we had until the first round series against Los Angeles.
We have depth and that`s what we need to be successful in the playoffs, ” Edmonton general manager Jeff Jackson said.
