![]() | Zak Brown: McClaren realizes it risks repeating 2007 season23-10-2025 |
Brown spoke about the risks inherent in McLaren`s philosophy. McLaren CEO Zak Brown discussed the level playing field between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris for the title.
We have our own belief system and we stick to it. We are happy with this approach to racing.
We also understand that not everything will work out for us. We are, always will be and I think always have been a two-car team.
We realize that the consequence could be a repeat of the 2007 season. There are two drivers who end up on equal terms and lose one point to Kimi [Raikkonen]. We could have won that title, but who would we choose? And if you choose someone, you risk losing someone else.
Our pilots are treated equally. Nothing in their contracts says one takes precedence over the other, they didn`t ask for it. Just equal and fair treatment.
We know this is good for the team. They accept it, they are happy with it, we are aware of the risks – a repeat of 2007. But if you bet on one driver, the other will want to leave - that`s exactly what happened at the end of 2007.
And you`re risking the Constructors` Championship, right? Other teams rely on one driver, and this in some way becomes a plus in the individual competition, but has a bad effect on the constructors` championship. Both competitions are equally important for us, ” Zach said.
